THE FUTURE OF FISH FARMING

The final episode of our Project Snook video series is about the future of Mote Aquaculture Research Park and fish farming in America. We get to meet the Vice President of Fisheries and Aquaculture for Mote Marine, Dr. Ken Leber PhD. He has fascinating knowledge of the fish industry in our country. He states, "84% of the seafood we eat in this country is imported." He believes aquaculture is the future. You can control the process. You have a secure process with control over the outcomes. If we don't begin to grow our food supply in this country, who knows what might happen. DONATE NOW

THE PROJECT SNOOK MICROSCOPE

$50,000 Project Snook Microscope

In Part 7 of our Project Snook video series, Capt Blair heads to Mote Aquaculture Park in Sarasota, Florida to check out their new microscope. Thanks to the donations from Project Snook and matching funds from the University of South Florida, Mote Marine is now the new owner of one of the most powerful microscopes for biology and marine science. The microscope allows scientist to see the development within the eggs. They can look at the internal organs like the bladder or check length and width in the larval stage. The microscope is hooked up to a computer, so the staff at Mote Aquaculture Park can output still images and even video clips for us to see what they see. Project Snook is a success!
