THE FUTURE OF FISH FARMING

The final episode of our Project Snook video series is about the future of Mote Aquaculture Research Park and fish farming in America. We get to meet the Vice President of Fisheries and Aquaculture for Mote Marine, Dr. Ken Leber PhD. He has fascinating knowledge of the fish industry in our country. He states, "84% of the seafood we eat in this country is imported." He believes aquaculture is the future. You can control the process. You have a secure process with control over the outcomes. If we don't begin to grow our food supply in this country, who knows what might happen. DONATE NOW

10 MONTH SNOOK UPDATE

Capt Blair Wiggins 10 month visit

In Part 5 of our Project Snook video series, Capt Blair Wiggins checks in with our juvenile spawned snook on their 10 month birthday. Mote Aquaculture Park staff are taking great care of the young fish, and this would be the time to release them into the wild. Unfortunately, government funding and public/private funding has been cut, and Mote Marine does not have enough staff to release this generation into the waters of Tampa Bay. Instead, Nate Brennan PhD and his team will continue to study the fish and try to better prepare future generations for life in the wild.
